How do I find projects/work?

To find a project/work:
Search and Bid:
  • Search and bid on projects matching the kind of services you intend to deliver.
  • Communicate with buyers, negotiate terms, establish milestones and win the project contract.
  • Start working on the project. The payment for the project would be released to you after successful completion of project based on established milestones.
Receive Bid Invitations:
  • Buyers search for providers and send invitations to bid on projects posted by them. We recommend that you fully complete your profile describing yourself, your experience and your skills in as much detail as possible to increase the possibility of receiving bid invitations from buyers.
Notifications:
  • You can also setup notifications via email and SMS messaging.
  • When buyers post projects that match your interests, 8KMiles will send you email /SMS notification messages.

How do I view my bid invitations?

While logged into the portal, the 8KMiles dashboard will provide a snapshot of all bid invitations. Bid invitations will also appear in your Message Center. Providers will also be notified via email using the email account available within their profile.

How should I decide on the optimal bid amount for a project?

At 8KMiles, you can view the buyer's budget for a project. We suggest you perform a detailed analysis of the project requirements and estimate the effort to meet the project deliverables. You are free to place any bid that you consider as the best and that you are comfortable with.

How do I post my profile?

Top

Sign up at 8KMiles as a Provider.

Validate your email and log in to your account.

Visit the "Professional Info" and "Profile" pages to update your information.

Here you will have options to specify the following:

  • Address and contact information
  • Skill Set
  • Education
  • Certifications
  • Work Experience
  • Professional Documentation

You can also request recommendations from buyers/service providers you know/have worked with to be displayed on your profile.

The "My 8KMiles" tab contains a "Profile Completeness" widget which displays the % completeness of your profile. Please ensure that you maintain your profile completeness at 100% to increase the probability of winning a project.

What is 8KMiles Verification process?

8KMiles' intent is to alleviate ID theft and related illegal activities as much as possible. For this reason, we are requesting all providers, service brokers and project managers to upload a copy of a government (state or federal) or university issued photo ID. Examples: Drivers License, Student ID card, Passport Photo Page, Election Card etc. The user can scan any of these documents and upload it in the documents tab under profile menu. If you do not have access to a scanner, you could take a picture of the document using a digital camera or your mobile phone and then upload the image. Your privacy is extremely important to us and we will use this only for verification purposes. If you have any concerns in doing this, please notify us through our feedback.

What kind of communication skills do I require?

8KMiles requires the providers to be proficient in English. Buyers would communicate during the bidding phase to judge your level of comfort with English. Being fluent in English will help towards smooth execution of project tasks throughout the project lifecycle.

How do I communicate with the buyer?

The 8KMiles Message Center provides a consolidated view of all messages and alerts that you have received from the 8KMiles system, buyers and other users of 8KMiles.

Alerts from the system pertaining to bids, contracts, projects and invoices are displayed on the Message Center. 8KMiles will soon offer video conferencing capabilities to help further with communication.

How do I get notified regarding any updates to my project?

After you log in to 8KMiles you would see all the updates and alerts on the "My 8KMiles" tab. Updates are informative notifications that generally do not require an action, whereas Alerts are notifications requiring an action. In addition there is link for the required action within each alert message.

8KMiles also notifies you via email for alerts.

Can I modify the ratings provided by a buyer?

Ratings provided by a buyer cannot be modified.

When and how do I raise an invoice?

Top

As a service provider, you should raise invoices in accordance with the terms of engagement for a project. For fixed price projects, this would usually be when a milestone has been reached. For hourly rate projects, this could be on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, based on the hours of effort spent over the work period. You also have the option of submitting timesheets for specific projects.

Invoices can be created from the Invoices page available on the 8KMiles portal.

Can I take online certifications and tests to increase my rating?

Yes, 8KMiles offers a wide variety of certifications and tests that can be taken online. These certifications will appear on your profile and improve your chances of getting hired on projects.
